I was wondering since a new season of open Cal is starting whether or not people would be interested in signing up SH to it?
I personally would like to join CAL-O, I hope enough others do too.

CPL you must be 18 and its a professional league you pay money and win money, play internationally.

I could possibly be assuming incorrectly here, correct me if im wrong:
CAL = Amateur League
CPL = Professional League
Lance indicated by name that he wanted to get SH to sign up for the amateur league. Which i also assume is not a professional league, and likely has no entry fees, and probably no prizes. But i dont know anything about either.
You people seem to be needlessly confusing lately. :P

First things first guys, we need to get more organized. Maybe I'm not around.. But have we had a single day of practice? or even Pick Up Games?? We need to start doing this on a consistent basis. I've played CAL-O, CAL-IM and CAL-M in 1.6 and what I learned from this is that we need to act,react,attack,counter attack and defend as a UNIT. And I know we have the skills to just play TWL like we play in PUBS but CAL is a different level and quite frankly, we aren't in that LEVEL yet as A TEAM.. Just my two cents.

I kinda have to agree with Grift, we aren't ready for CAL, yes we have good players here, but it is obvious that we dont work well together, not because of any incompatability, but because we dont practice together enough to know how the others think while they play.

Partaking in anything with the word "cyberathelete" in it requires one to have the mental fortitude and confidence as a straight man dressing publicly in drag.
Whoever thought up that word deserves to have his liver pecked out by a vulture for eternity.

It is a strange new world we live in DranoK. Unfortunately with the times, the terminology also changes.. and in some cases for the worst. This is a sign that we are getting old i think, when the terms make us ill if we actually have to speak them. From here on out it only gets harder, for the rest of our lives we will be falling behind the technology curve, till eventually you are of grandpa age, and can no longer understand anything but the most basic computer interfaces of your time. All the kids will laugh and make fun of your stories of when you had to use a keyboard, and drive to work in a CAR, like you are some sort of freak from the past.
I on the other hand will accept the term cyberathelete with a grain of distaste, but realize that its the acting term for a functioning group of people who engage in gaming competitions. So i will never grow old, nor have to suffer the teasings of children and the pain of being forgotten to time. Or something. :)
My only downfall appears to be the lack of financial backing to establish roots in this forthcoming technological world. My computer is old by todays standards, being (if) only slightly better than the average pre-built computer nowdays.. and only because of my videocard. >_<

OK, first off I'll never get old.
Second it's not the term that's so disgusting, it's the idea. Cyber-athlete? Look, I love computer geeks. I hate guys with muscle--a total turnoff for me. But that doesn't mean a gamer deserves the title of athlete. An athlete is someone who trains his body to compete. Not someone who controls a mouse and keyboard well.
A freak from the past? Not all of us live there, you know. Some of us actually seek to experience new things. Not understand modern equipment? Insane. You only let yourself get out of date due to apathy or depression-inducing nostalgia. I have neither.
Accepting new, idiotic terms is not keeping with the times. If it were we'd all be saying "rad" still. It's abandoning your own self esteem to fit in.
Speaking of actual old age, some of the greatest people I've had the pleasure of knowing I met when they were old. They weren't out of date, but neither did they abandon their personality to conform. Non-conformity is and always will be the hallmark ideal of youth.
Sorry, I'll never be old. Not in that way.
BTW, financial backing? I'd suggest a job ;)

I have to say that it would be really scary if you somehow got one of these at some time.

To be honest, I think that we could pull this off with just a bit of coordination. I played CAL last summer (yes, crappy old onion played CAL) and went something like 2-2 before I had to go on my vacation and chill with Lance. There are worse teams (MUCH WORSE OMFG I DON'T GET HOW THEY CAN BE SO BAD) than us that play CAL, and there are much better (4 digit steam ID's oOooOOoOOoOoOooo). I think that we should participate actively in the TWL 5v5 and that would allow us to get some basic teamwork down. Yes, CAL takes skill, but most of what it takes is coordination and knowing wtf to do when shit hits the fan.
My 2 cents, hope it helps. I'll continue to hide in tall grass with my ghillie suit and shank people on COD4 until we decide to do something. Damn TV distracted me and I forgot the witty WoW reference I was going to make.

if you guys really wanted to play a league, we should start off OGL then work our way up to CAL, OGL is a bit more challenging then TWL. CAL-O there are some really good teams. Some teams that should be playing in CAL-M, I, etc are play in O, so we should just continue to build up experience and skills at TWL and OGL.
I think signing up for CAL would be a great step forward for SH. I honestly don't see why we would need to work our way up to CAL-O, it's a free league and we have nothing to lose.

not many of us can make it. on time.

we dont even play in our own server and you want to play against other clans? Do you realize the level of practice this requires? You have to know the mind of your 4 teammates and you have to have really good aim. (something I lack)
Monkey

not only that, but we gotta make sure we have the same people on each team each tome, and they gotta practice together a LOT

I don't see why we shouldn't do this. You guys act as if by joining, we have something to lose (like money), when, in reality, we don't. I think it would be great for us as a clan to at least attempt this, since the only thing that can really happen is we get laughed at if we really suck it up that bad. Not many clans have a big enough pair to attempt CAL, for whatever reason.
Like I said, I did it with a group of friends before I joined SH.. we did not do too badly, there are DEFINITELY worse groups.

Quit being an idealist Onion! Or.. something..
My take is that people dont want to sign up for obligations.
Onionpaste

Yeah, I've seen that a lot with this clan (no offense meant, it's entirely ok). However, people are talking about getting more serious with TWL and maybe some other leagues, and I can't see that happening without signing up for obligations. So if that's the issue, then it's a shallow one, and perhaps an issue more with the people, not with the skill of the clan as a whole.
