Futurama happens to be my favorite series, period. It just radiated brilliance like nothing else I've ever seen. People always ramble about how "philisophical" The Simpsons is; yet this is just a shadow of the depth that's present in Futurama. Matt Groening is most certainly a genious, I'd reccomend "LIfe in Hell" to anyone who likes his work (it's a fairly odd syndicated comic).

It's definitely sad that Futurama got cancelled. Twice even. I guess for the most part people just didn't get it. The Simpsons, on the other hand, was generally a bit more sneaky with their horribleness; even those who didn't understand the relevance still found the more blatent humor funny. Moreover, to one not looking close enough The Simpsons seems to encourage a moral sense of being (athough those who watch closer most likely see the negating irony that's omnipresent).

Futurama, on the other hand, didn't hide itself behind these drapings. While the humor most certainly didn't require an understanding of philosophy or even rationality it did require a certain level of detatchment from the characters. Because, really, you didn't like any of the characters. I mean, you did, but none of them were respectable. They were all horrible in their own unique ways. The entire Universe was horrible. It was because of this that the character interactions truly shined.

*sigh* Here's hoping Groening manages to surpass the brilliance of Futurama in whatever endevour he strikes upon next..

Yeah I certainly wish it was futurama coming back next year instead of family guy, but oh well, they are both good shows =)

OMFG fg is so much better than futurama. But maybe fox while be struck with lightning and actually think for 1 millisecond and bring back both, naw fox is too dumb to think up a genious idea as that.

American Dad is coming out too (seth mcfarlane's new series)((seth mcfarlane i.e. maker of family guy))

meh, i get futurama, but the point of tv is to dumb humor down to an immediate response. if you want intellectual humor go read some shakespeare.

Peter: ...its like the paper bag is dancing with me.
God: Its a frieking paper bag!!! Do you have any idea how complicated your circulatory system is?

Peter: Lois, I'm gonna grow a beard.
Lois: Peter, you know I hate beards ...
Peter: No no Lois, it's time I joined the ranks of great men with beards. Why do you think Jesus Christ was so popular? Cause ... cause of all the magic tricks?

Lois: Sweetie, it's broccoli, it's good for you. Now open up for the airplane ...
Stewie: Never! Damn the broccoli, damn you, and damn the Wright brothers(well i guess that makes you think a little)

Lois: Oh, I haven't been on a college campus in years. Everything seems so different.
Stewie: Really? Perhaps if you laid on your back with your ankles behind your ears that would ring a few bells?

Stewie's Letter: Dear stupid dog, I've gone to live with the children on jolly farm. Good bye forever. Stewie.
P.S. I never got a chance to return that sweater Lois gave me for Christmas. Umm, I left the receipt on top of my bureau. I'm probably over the thirty day return limit but umm… I'm sure if you make a fuss they'll at least give you a store credit or something. Umm.. It's actually not a horrible sweater. It's... It's just I can't imagine when I would ever wear it you know? Oh I also left a button on the bureau. I'm not sure what it goes to, but I can never bring myself to throw a button away. I know that as soon as I do I'll find the garment it goes to and then it'll… Wait a minute, could it be from the sweater? Did that sweater have buttons? Hmm… Well I should wrap this up before I start to ramble. Again, goodbye forever.
P.P.S. You know, it might be a little chilly in London, I'm actually going to take the sweater.

Peter: Have they ever shown him doing somebody in and then feeding on him?
Brian: You're asking if they've ever done a Sesame Street in which the Count kills somebody and then sucks their blood for sustenance.
Peter: Yeah.
Brian: No, they've never done that.

...[T]he point of tv is to dumb humor down to an immediate response. if you want intellectual humor go read some shakespeare.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Argh my brain is going to hemmorhage if I think about that longer. It's like suggesting the point of painting pictures is to use them for advertising purposes; or suggesting the point of music is Britney Spears. *shudder*

I enjoy Family Guy but would never claim it to be meaningful in any way. It certainly doesn't compare to anything with substance. There's nothing wrong with aimless, pointless, brainless entertainment so long as you approach it as such and avoid limiting your entertainment intake to only such drivelry; after all, you wouldn't stop eating everything but twinkies, would you?
